Mini Reviews: The Harry Potter Edition | sprinkledpages

Hi friends!

Today I am going to be reviewing the two Harry Potter novellas (I honestly don’t know what to call them – they’re like part of the Harry Potter world but don’t relate to the storyline??) which are Quidditch Through The Ages and The Tales Of Beedle The Bard!

Also these two beauties recently got a new edition with these stunning covers illustrated by Johnny Duddle and I am in love with these they are WAYYY too gorgeous! (Like half of this review I can already predict is going to be talking about the outside rather than the inside #sorrynotsorry)

Fun fact about these novellas! They were written by J.K Rowling (duh!) for charities which I thought was the loveliest thing ever. The charity being supported is Comic Relief who will give money from the sales of the book to people who are living tough lives in the UK and other parts of the world. Cool right?

Also, this is going to be particularly mini because I honestly don’t have a lot to say, but I still wanted to share these with you guys!

QUIDDITCH THROUGH THE AGES

So I’ve always really been fascinated by Quidditch. I’m not the hugest sports person but I found the game to seem really fun and honestly, if I could, I would totally try out to be part of the Hogwarts Quidditch team!

I thought this was such an informative non-fiction (but really fiction?) book about Quidditch as a sport and went into so much more detail than the HP books did! It had the history of the sport and I loved the illustrations accompanying the text! All in all, it’s a short and very cute read for fans of the HP world who want to learn more about it!

THE TALES OF BEEDLE THE BARD

Mini Reviews: The Harry Potter Edition | sprinkledpagesI am a hugeee sucker for fairy tales so these were particularly cute (and kinda scary!). I loved the Dumbledore notes and it just made me feel so reminiscent about the series and it makes me really want to re-read it, at least once!

The illustrations in this were also so stunning and well done and even though they’re black and white, they just come alive on the page!

The stories themselves were very well written and I could have expected nothing less from the fabulous Rowling! It was such a lovely addition to the Harry Potter series and I’m trying not to regret not having read these earlier, especially since they’re so short!

Thank you so much to Bloomsbury Australia for sending these my way! However, all thoughts and opinions are my own and this is an honest review!

And that’s it from me! What do you think of Harry Potter? Do you like it? And have you read these accompanying novellas? What did you think of them?

  1. I love HP! I grew up reading the books and watching the movie, so you could say that they are my childhood. I've read some of its novella, but in this post, I only have read Tales of Beedle. I also really like the story, they are very well written and definitely what you would expect for a wizarding world bedtime stories xD

  2. So ... I haven't completed the HP series yet. I know I know. I only got into them last year, but then there was that book that happened with Sirius ... and I was too heartbroken to continue. I loved the first few books because they had an innocence to them, but when the stories started getting darker, my interest sort of went down.
These short stories sound so cute. I'm glad you liked them overall!

    1. OMG YOU MUST READ THEM NICK! They only get better! And yes Order Of The Phoenix broke my heart. Aha, regarding how dark they got, I found I liked that because suddenly the plot thickened and it became so much more than it originally appeared to be, if you know what I mean! But everyone has different bookish opinions and I totally respect yours and see where you are coming from!

Thanks for reading and ps, i adore your blog!

  4. I have the original copies of these novellas but for some reason I still have not read The Tales of Beedle the Bard. I remember being so excited for it and getting it as soon as it released but then never read it. Doh! I should probably do that at some point. lol

  5. I LOVE Harry Potter, but for some reason I never picked up these novellas. I guess it's because I don't usually read a lot of novellas. But Tales of Beedle the Bard does sound like something I'd enjoy so maybe I'd have to give it a try :)

    1. I'm not really a huge novella person so I can see where you're coming from, especially when they don't add to the story line. I do hope you enjoy them whenever you get around to reading them though!

  6. I really love Harry Potter and I am always amazed at how much thought the author put into that magical world. I haven't read these novellas yet, and I don't know if I ever will - novellas aren't really my thing, but damn, these editions look SO PRETTY! :) Lovely review :)

  9. Confession: I have never read an HP book, but it's on my list. I usually struggle with reading a book after I have seen an adaptation of it. You picture is lovely!

  10. I think I'm one of a few people that have yet to read the Harry Potter series but these books do sound interesting. Quidditch just sounds like such a fun sport and getting to know a bit more about its history.

  14. I am a huge HP fan and I loved these additions to the Potterverse! The new covers are so pretty. I love Quidditch Through the Ages (and Fantastic Beasts) because I love the notes that Harry & co. wrote in the margins! Plus like you said, it's fun getting the "non-fiction" info. Tales of Beedle the Bard is wonderful! It felt so very JKR and I just loved the short fables/fairy tales. So charming and definitely creepy.
