sprinkled pages » a book and baking blog

Hey friends!

It is that time of the month again where I share with you the books I hauled in August and the books I read in August.

August was a super busy month for me and there was so much going on towards the end however, I managed to do pretty good with my reading! I read a grand total of 14 books which I am quite happy with, a few of them being graphic novels and audiobooks!

If you'd like to see the books I read, check out my video where I go through each of the books + what I thought of them + my star ratings! (Or watch on YouTube)

I really focused on requesting less books from publishers in August because of how stressful and overloaded I can become with having too many review books and it worked and I got very little publisher mail which honestly makes me so happy because I could focus on reading the books I wanted to read and therefore I had a more satisfactory reading month!

If you'd like to see the books I hauled, then check out my video below! (Or watch on YouTube)

Thank you for reading friends! It'd mean a lot to me if you could also take the time to subscribe to my YouTube channel if you haven't already, because it shows me you are enjoying my content and maybe even leave me a thumbs up and comment?

What books did you read or haul in August? Did I read or haul any of your favourites?

July Book Haul And Wrap Up | sprinkledpages

Hi friends!

Today I'm here to share with you my HUGE July book haul + 2 unboxings and my July and Biannual Bibliothon wrap up!

July was great in terms of reading and I managed to read 14 books and ended up DNFing 2 books. It was a great month overall too as I was on my term break and went to Cairns, snorkeled in the Great Barrier Reef and hugged a koala! I also collected a lot of books in July, especially box sets and I cannot wait to read them!

Anyways, you can watch more below! And it'd mean a lot to me if you could subscribe to my channel as I'm SUPER close to 200 subscribers!

June book haul and wrap up | sprinkledpages

Hey friends!

I know this is (very!) late seeing that this month is pretty much over but I was late filming this because I went to Cairns on a little holiday and then I had a lot of editing issues with my video but I managed to upload both my book haul and wrap up!

My hauling month was pretty big, to the point where I divided it up over two videos because it would make me feel less guilty at the sheer amount of books I collected #oops. I was generally good with the purchasing but I did sneak a few buys in here and there but not as bad as some of my other months.

My reading month however wasn't the best. I wasn't in a 'slump' as such but I did read less than normal and I didn't really enjoy the books I read. I was actually very frustrated and unhappy with the books I was reading because I wasn't enjoying them very much, sadly. I only gave one book above four stars and it was only four and a half stars, not even five.

And as for my month in general, that was also not the best. It was very busy and stressful which lead to me being very cranky and unhappy at times. I was also sick at the beginning of June which meant I got a little behind in school and in terms of other bits and pieces I needed to get done.

But July has been MUCH better in comparison.

Anyways, here are my videos, watch them if you want to see what I read + hauled this month! And maybe consider heading over to YouTube to check out my channel, liking and commenting if you enjoy?

Holiday Reading Wrap Up! | sprinkledpages

Hey lovelies!

So if you’ve been keeping up with my previous wrap ups which are the October and November wrap up, you’ll know I was on holiday during the last week of November and the entire of December of 2016!

I knew I was going to have a lot of spare time during this trip so I took A LOT of books with me to read during this period of time! And I am pretty happy with how much I read!

Let’s get started because I don’t want to waste time in the intro!

{ DIVERSITY DECEMBER BINGO READATHON BOOKS }

If you’ve been reading my previous blog posts, you’ll know how much I’ve been talking about this readathon! I did two blog posts on this already – information + my tbr where I talked about what this readathon was and the aims of it and a wrap up where I talked about what I thought of these books specifically.

To avoid being repetitive, you can read more details on those books there! However, here is a brief list of the books I did read for this diversity promoting readathon!
  • If I Was Your Girl
  • The Sun Is Also A Star (I do have a no spoiler book review for this which you may wish to read!)
  • Tiny Pretty Things
  • The Song Of Achilles
  • Of Fire And Stars
  • The Forbidden Wish
  • Not If I See You First
  • Salt To The Sea

READ MY FULL #DIVERSITYDECBINGO WRAP UP HERE FOR MYTHOUGHTS ON THESE BOOKS + MY STAR RATINGS

{ ARCs + BOOKS FOR REVIEW}

I wasn’t able to take physical review copies of books that I had received so I took ebook copies of a few review copies and mostly ARCs.
  • The Sun Is Also A Star (click title for no spoiler book review)
The Sun Is Also A Star | sprinkledpages

I took a lot more with me but I didn't end up reading them when I was away so I shall hopefully be reading them soon!

{ PERSONAL READING }

This is the reading I CHOSE to do without any other obligations involved!

Ruined by Amy Tintera

So I saw this book all over Instagram and finally decided to give it a try when I found it in my ebook service of my library. I had heard some mixed things about it and although it sounded interesting, I wasn’t SUPER excited to read it!

However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I did really enjoy! It was quite entertaining! I liked the characters and the romance and the plot was easy to understand and get into. I am very excited for the next book, coming out this year!

Starbound trilogy by Megan Spooner and Amie Kaufman

So I am going to be doing a whole series review on this one, coming up very soon, so stay tuned for that for more thoughts! In the meantime though, you can always check out my Goodreads review for brief thoughts of mine!

This Shattered World Goodreads review
Their Fractured Light Goodreads review

Siege And Storm and Ruin And Rising by Leigh Bardugo

I have a no spoiler review for the entire trilogy going up soon so keep an eye out for that! Until then, you may want to read my Goodreads review for brief thoughts of these books! (Please note that I did not read Shadow And Bone while on holiday but thought to include the review just in case you wanted to read it!)

Furthermore by Tahereh Mafi

While I thought this was a beautiful book, it wasn’t as interesting as I hoped it would be and some parts got boring and childish, which is understandable as it is a middle grade novel intended for a younger audience. That being said, the characters were adorable and the world building and imagination put into the book is absolutely mind blowing!

Billy And Me by Giovanna Fletcher

This was a cute and enjoyable story and while I was very captivated while reading, it didn’t stick around in my mind after, unfortunately. That being said, it is the perfect fluffy and cute contemporary to sink your teeth into, especially for the summer! The characters are adorable and the plot is actually quite interesting, which always seems to be a rarity in contemporaries.

The Devil You Know by Trish Doller

I was originally really into this book. It was mysterious and intriguing and I kept guessing what the conclusion would be…only to find that I was right. I love books that keep me guessing and then prove me wrong and I feel this was just too easy and the plot wasn’t as intricately laid out as it could have been. The disappointing ending left me with meh feelings about the whole book.

And that is it! I really enjoyed the variety of books I read! I read 16 books, which I am very happy with seeing that I was quite busy! I read some super awesome books this month, which was a change from the previous month where I felt quite let down so this makes me very happy!

To keep up with what I'm currently reading and to be in the know of my thoughts of a book even BEFORE I blog about it, make sure to follow me on Goodreads!

November Wrap Up | sprinkledpages

Hey lovelies!

TODAY IT'S WRAP UP TIME! November was SUCH a crazy month for me, which you may have already known if you'd read my previous wrap up where I talked a little about why!

I did get reading done but it was probably my worst reading month overall with only 8 books! However, I'm not overly sad or worried because I know I'll be able to get a lot of reading done in December with my school holidays AND I was super busy in November so I'm proud to have even read that much!

This wrap up is going to be pretty brief but I do have detailed book reviews for some of the books I've read this month which you can check out!

{ READ }

The books marked with an asterix (*) have a no spoiler book review for them on my blog where I talk in detail about the idea, writing, plot, characters and more!

  • The Star Touched Queen*
  • The Dream Thieves
  • Blue Lily Lily Blue
  • The Raven King
  • Holding Up The Universe*
  • Moon Chosen*
  • Shadow And Bone
  • Girl Online*
  • Fantastic Beasts*
  • If I Was Your Girl
The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

The Raven Cycle consists of four books - The Raven Boys, The Dream Thieves, Blue Lily Lily Blue and The Raven King!

I have already read and reviewed The Raven Boys and the review for The Dream Thieves is on its way! Overall, I quite enjoyed this series because it was so mystical and atmospheric and it was impossible to not be drawn into the world of the raven boys and their crazy awesome adventures!

It was so character driven and so intricately built and written. My only criticism for it is the lack of romance, but that is subjective because other people might not mind the lack of romance. I also found the ending left me with a lot of questions, which I didn't like as much because I feel like not everything was clarified!

However, overall I did enjoy it (even though it was quite overhyped!)

Shadow And Bone by Leigh Bardugo

So I FINALLY PICKED UP THE FIRST BOOK IN THE GRISHA VERSE! I am super glad to have picked it up after putting it off for so long because I really, really enjoyed it! I loved the characters and the mystery and the whole world, even though it was slightly confusing at first!

I have yet to read the other two books in the Grisha trilogy - Siege And Storm and Ruin And Rising - but I am so excited to after the first book!

I didn't go in with super high expectations for this after hearing Six Of Crows was the better one but I did really enjoy it!

If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo

I read this as part of my #diversitydecbingo (which I did a whole post on so you can find out more information about here!) because I started it a little early and IT WAS SO ENJOYABLE!

I was drawn towards it after seeing it was a diverse book, and that it sounded interesting AND that Jennifer Niven (aka my favourite author!) had blurbed it AND Zoella had mentioned it in her book club!

The other posts that I have published on the blog!

  • Lone City no spoiler series review

{ LIFE }

So if you'd read my previous wrap up, you'd know I had a pretty busy month! I don't want to get into details of what because it's long so you can read my previous wrap up to find out more but other than that, I am currently on holiday as I write this and it's not too bad so far!

I've had fun although I am missing my bookshelf and bed and friends and wifi and all!

The Midnight Star | sprinkledpages

Hey lovelies!

I know my wrap up is a little late (okay, quite late!) but that’s because I wasn’t originally going to put it up however, then I changed my mind and decided to because I don’t think I’ll be able to write a wrap up for the end of November (but I talk about more why below!) so I thought I’d try to at least stay in the habit for as long as I can!

My book descriptions have been brief because I want to keep this post short and I have reviews for quite a few of these books already on the blog so you can check that out for more details on what I thought! And for some of them, the review has not yet been uploaded so you may have to check back in a few days for it!

Let’s just get started!

{ READING }

So October was pretty great reading month for me! I read 13 books! I know, it’s quite crazy but I probably won’t be able to do the same in November because of how hectic this month is with exams and all but I’m happy I was able to read that much when I had the time!

There has been a mixed rating of books read this month but more below! I also managed to read a few books from my October TBR but not as many as I would have wanted!

Beautiful Broken Things by Sara Barnard
I thought this was such a fantastic book on female friendships and so simple but touching! It stayed with me long after I put the book down and I still think about it from time to time! It was cute, enjoyable and unexpected!

For more, read my spoiler freebook review!

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
I mostly just read this book because I wanted to go see the movie and I hate seeing the movie without having read the book. I did enjoy it but it wasn’t as good as I thought and while I will be continuing with the rest of the series, it is not on the very top of my TBR if you know what I mean!

For more, read my spoiler freebook review!

Stealing Snow by Danielle Paige
Aha, this book. I have never, ever given a book a single star rating out of five until I read this one. I did not like this AT ALL, because of how sucky EVERYTHING was!

I don’t want to get too negative so if you want to know more on why I didn’t like it, read my spoiler free bookreview!

Replica by Lauren Oliver
I thought this was a very unique book because of the story and the concept of the flip stories! It wasn’t as good as Lauren Oliver’s other books but enjoyable nonetheless!

For more, read my spoiler freebook review!

Love And Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch
I mostly read this book because I’d seen it all over Instagram and I was pleasantly surprised by it! it wasn’t perfect by any means and some parts were a bit dry but it had a fun, summery vibe and a little bit of mystery. PLUS, it’s set in Italy and HAS ICE CREAM ON THE FRONT! That’s a win for me!

Love And Gelato | sprinkledpages

The Wrath And The Dawn duology by Renee Ahdieh
I was really looking forward to this and I am so happy it didn’t disappoint! It was vibrant, beautiful and is one of my favourite series! The characters and the world were so beautiful and basically transported me into this world!

My book review for this series is going to be up soon so check back in a few days to read more of what  I thought!

Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman
I thought this was a great, fast paced and action packed book though I did have a few problems with trying to make sense of everything!

For more, read my spoiler freebook review!

Heartless by Marissa Meyer
I am actually on the blog tour for this so that’s exciting! I thought the story was pretty great because of the baking, the fun setting and the spin on Alice In Wonderland!

My review for this book is going to be live on the 16th of November so make sure to check back then to read more of what I thought!

The Graces by Laure Eve
There were some very mixed reviews about this book but I really enjoyed it! I thought it was something different and a little fun and unexpected!

For more, read my spoiler freebook review!

The Midnight Star by Marie Lu
This was the epic conclusion to the Young Elites trilogy and I thought it was so fantastic! It had me in tears at the very end and left me reeling!

For more, read my spoiler freebook review!

The Midnight Star | sprinkledpages

Holding Up The Universe by Jennifer Niven
If you know me at all, you’ll know how much I adore Jennifer Niven so I had to read her new book when it came out! While I thought it was good, it wasn’t as good as All The Bright Places!

My book review for this is coming so check back here soon to see more of what I thought!

The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye
Fun fact: I read this book in a day! I thought it was imaginative but fell flat in terms of the plot and characters. It is a very pretty book though!

My book review for this is coming so check back here soon to see more of what I thought!

{ BLOGGING }

My blogging fell a bit flat this month, going from posting every day to posting every 2-3 days but I think that’s also good as it allows time for you guys to catch up on what you’ve missed!

Some of the other posts I published this month that were not book reviews:

  • August + September Huge Book Haul
  • Popular Series I Want To Read
  • October TBR

{ LIFE }

So life in October was good! I had my school holidays at the very start, I was doing lots of reading and I started playing tennis again! (And won a few matches too which is always nice!)

I also went to the Gemina book launch where I met some of the Melbourne bookish crew and since then have been chatting on Twitter with them! It was so nice meeting them and getting Illuminae signed and meeting the authors!

November is going to be a crazy month for me because of upcoming exams and going overseas! On that note, I’m not going to be in Australia the end of November and the entire of December because I’m going overseas! That means lots of packing and not very much blogging! I’m going to leave scheduled posts behind (that will hopefully post otherwise how annoying!) but it means I won’t be able to put much time and effort into my content as before!

However, I am back in January which is during school holidays so I can spend lots of time reading and blogging then!

I'm not even going to bother doing a TBR this month because a) it's practically half way through the month already and b) I'm finding it very hard to predict exactly what I'm going to read so if you want to know what I'm reading at the moment, you can keep up with it on my Goodreads!

How was your October? Reading, blogging and life wise?

September Wrap Up | sprinkledpages

Hey lovelies!

Today I’m going to be sharing with you my September wrap up! I know it’s not technically the end of the month yet but I wanted to have this out a little bit earlier so I wouldn’t be rushed at the end of the month.

So it was a pretty great reading month for me! I read a grand total of twelve books this month which is awesome and I am really, really happy with it. I discovered a series that I really loved, I got to check out some pretty cool ARCs and although there were books I didn’t love a whole lot, overall, it was fantastic!

August Wrap Up | sprinkledpages

Okay, wow, how is August already over? I swear I was just doing my July wrap up and August TBR yesterday. I feel like when you look back at the years and the months they seem to fly by yet the hours and the days go quite slow.

Books

I am quite happy to say I got a fair amount of reading done in August. I also got some of my friends that didn't read very much into it, which is always a win because reading is #awesome!

Hello August! I cannot believe how fast the months have flown. It's ridiculous to think we're more than half way through the year.

Anyway, today I'm doing my July wrap up post! This is the first time I'm doing something like this and it is mostly experimental but let's just get started, shall we?
