I feel like I’ve read quite a few of those this year, and sadly, The Song Of The Current by Sarah Tolscer was that for me! I buddy read this book with Aditi @ A Thousand Words A Million Books who is such a great buddy reader! Also, instead of my usual structured review today, I’m going to be doing a more chatty style post which is SPOILER FREE, don’t you worry, to discuss this book!

Today I’m going to be doing a discussion + review based on the discussion for The Bone Witch!

But I gotta start off by asking! Do you ever go back to books you DNF? (That is: do not finish.)

I don’t tend to go back to books I DNFed because I always have SO many books I want to get to that if I didn’t like a book first time round reading it, I wouldn’t bother with it again! I am fairly quick to judge a book, especially when I haven’t heard much about it or I haven’t really been pushed to read it by friends and other bloggers.

With the Bone Witch specifically, I had an eARC of it and I got through about 100 pages before deciding to put it down. At the time, I had lots of other books to read and the beginning just wasn’t very interesting. I did mention when DNFing it that I had wanted to go back to it sometime but by that time, my eARC had expired. 

But I decided all of a sudden after reading some fantastic reviews on it and seeing it around in the book community that I wanted to give it one last chance and, so that’s exactly what I did! 

And BOY am I glad I did!

I didn’t have super high hopes going into this because I’m not a huge fan of action/thriller and it’s not a genre I commonly reach for! HOWEVER, I have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised when reading Wreck and I’m so glad I picked it up!

Today I wanted to talk to you about The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord! This was the first time I had read her work but I knew she was quite popular and has a large fan base. I had heard this book was amazing from other bloggers before reading it, and if you can’t tell by the title, I was not impressed.

If you did enjoy The Names They Gave Us, I am sorry for how badly I’m going to tear this book apart, so if you don’t want to read this, I won’t hate you because I understand!

Don’t you just hate feeling let down by books? Whenever I am told I’m going to love a book, while I may still like it but I won’t love it. This is because I start building a ‘shrine’ for the book in my mind, especially when my favourite bloggers rave on and on about it! I hate when it happens and even when I try to consciously not hype myself up for books IT STILL HAPPENS! And it’s even worse when instead of being horrible, the book is just ‘meh’ and a sad average three stars because then you can’t even rant about why you hated it extensively! *insert sad face emoji here*

Today I’m bringing to you a review for Stalking Jack The Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco! I’m not much of a thriller reader and going into this, I didn’t know anything about it, but we had recently studied a murder mystery novel in literature (in school) set in Victorian England and it was The Strange Case Of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde so I was quite interested to read this! And I have to say, I’m so glad I did!

In case you didn’t know, it’s pride month – a time to celebrate LGBTQI+ books and writers! And of course then there was no better time than this to share with you a special, Pride Month edition of mini reviews about books featuring bisexual main characters both of which are #ownvoices (meaning the authors feature the same diverse characteristics as their character)!

I have never been a huge fan of pirates, if I’m being really honest. I didn’t see what was so appealing about them, especially since they are well known thieves and in some cases murders. I have seen the first Pirates Of The Caribbean but haven’t seen the others, and as a child, Peter Pan was a story I avoided because there was nothing appealing about a guy with a hook for an arm. 

Going into Daughter Of The Pirate King, I didn’t really have high expectations – not because it didn’t sound interesting – but because pirates were a ‘meh’ for me. And this book totally changed my mind!
