Iced Sugar Cookies
Want a fun and yummy way to let out your creativity? The iced sugar cookies are perfect, not only because they taste like heaven - they are extremely fun to make and decorate. This recipe is perfect for making by yourself, with a friend or even a child who might enjoy the icing and decorating portion.
ICED SUGAR COOKIES
PREP TIME: 20 mins | COOKING TIME: 10-15 mins | MAKES: 12-15
INGREDIENTS
For the cookies:
- 100g butter
- 100g caster sugar
- 1 egg
- 225g plain flour
For the water icing: (can use royal icing as a substitute)
- 100 g sugar
- 1-2 tablespoons hot water
- Food colouring (optional)
- Decorations such as silver balls, sprinkles (optional)
EXTRA EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
- 2 baking trays
- Cling film
- Cookie cutters
- Rolling pin
METHOD
To make the cookies:
- Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius
- Lay out non stick baking paper onto trays
- Mix butter and sugar until it's light and fluffy
- Add in the egg and mix well
- Sift the flour into the bowl and mix the flour using your hands
- Kneed the mixture into a smooth dough using your hands
- Wrap in cling film and place into the fridge for 15 minutes
- Flour a surface and rolling pin
- Take the dough out and roll it out on the surface
- Roll to about 1-2 cm thickness
- Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes
- Place biscuits onto tray and put into the oven
- Bake for 10-15 minutes until golden brown
- Lift them onto a wire rack to cool
To decorate the cookies:
- Sift icing sugar into a bowl
- Add in enough water to make it into a smooth paste
- Add a drop of food colouring
- Spread/ice it on. (I used a knife to spread it on)
- Decorate
