Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them No Spoiler Screenplay Review
GUESS WHAT TODAY IS? IT’S THE REVIEW FOR THE SCREENPLAY OF
FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM BY J.K ROWLING!!!!!
Let’s just wait a moment to allow it all to sink in!
So if you don’t know because you’ve been living under a
rock, J.K Rowling released a screenplay of Fantastic Beasts alongside the newly
released movie! If you’re familiar with the Harry Potter world, you’ll know all
about this but if not, let me just fill you in!
The Fantastic Beasts story is a HP prequel with different
characters. However, these characters are mentioned in HP. When this was
originally released, it was a ‘textbook’ created by J.K Rowling for charity
about some of the creatures in the HP world. However, she recently made into a
narrative and story with the characters of the textbook and created the history
behind how the textbook came to be! (So basically it is about Newt Scamander’s
journey to writing the Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them textbook used by
Harry in HP).
Kind of confusing but still pretty great!
The screenplay and the movie are the EXACT same thing
however I do suggest seeing and reading both! I have yet to see the movie but I
finished reading the screenplay just yesterday and knew I had to have it up for
you guys because I could not contain my excitement!
And can I just say how freaking beautiful the entire book
is? Not only the hard cover design with the beautiful gold embellished dust
jacket and the cute lil niffler on the inside but the entire book with the
headers and the font and the small little drawings inside! Even the end papers
are gorgeous!
This book is literally a work of art! Inside and out!
It has been written by J.K Rowling ALONE, unlike the Cursed
Child play and the book has been designed by MinaLima who were graphic
designers on the HP and Fantastic Beasts film!
I know this has been a HUGE intro but one last thing before
we start! I didn’t have much of an expectation for this book after Cursed Child
because that one let me down however, this one was so fantastic (as the name
suggests, haha, see what I did there?) and it is a must read!
This is SPOILER FREE! For Harry Potter AND for Fantastic
Beasts!

My thoughts.
{ WRITING }
So this segment is going to be very short because I don’t have
a whole lot to say in terms for writing because it is a screenplay and designed
to be watched rather than read.
However, I feel like I could see the magic of J.K Rowling
coming through, even though it was not technically a novel and I felt myself
getting really drawn into this unique and interesting world! It was really
reminiscent because it reminded me of the good times I spent reading Harry
Potter!
I feel like reading a screenplay is also quite an odd
experience because I’m not someone who understands movie lingo and the way they
are made so it can be difficult to understand some of the language used,
however, there is a very helpful glossary in the back which makes me extremely
happy! Reading a screenplay is also a little different and difficult because
you are mainly exposed to dialogue and there is very little world building and
scene description.
If there hadn’t been a movie alongside the screenplay, I would
have not been able to picture any of the characters because of how little
description there was for them!
The screenplay was also very short! I read it in a day! It looks
decent sized but because of the huge margins and focus on scene building than
actual text, there wasn’t much to read, which was great because I like
something that’s short and sweet!
{ IDEA }
Can I just say how cool it to be exposed to the American
wizarding community? I loved how different it was, from Muggles vs No-Maj to
the wizarding schools and communities! I liked being exposed to a different
world and I feel it was quite well done!
I also liked how J.K Rowling focused on animals in this book!
As a huge animal lover myself, I think it was so fantastic to have this
suitcase filled with exotic creatures and it was such a unique and out of the
blue idea!
{ PLOT }
I can’t say too much about the plot without giving it away
but I felt it was a little uneventful, predictable and less intricate compared
to the plots in Harry Potter. There was very little going on and there wasn’t a
‘wow’ factor for me.
The plot in FB was very simple and not very intricately
woven or astonishing. Although I found the world super interesting, I can’t say
the plot had me really hooked in, which is especially disappointing as a plot
is the main part of a movie/screenplay rather than the characters which is more
for books.
{ CHARACTERS }
AHA! My favourite part of the book! The characters in FB
were so fantastic and loveable especially Newt, the precious little cinnamon roll!
I loved the depth of the characters, even from the short
screenplay! Newt is such a sweet, awkward person. I loved how much he cared
about his creatures and the lengths he went to, to protect and care for them! He
was also so caring and sweet and loyal and such a true Hufflepuff!
The other characters I feel I didn’t get to know well enough
to be able to write something on unfortunately as they were a little dry and
not developed as much. I didn’t really feel the romance because I think it was
shoved in there a little towards the end for the sake of having a romance
however I didn’t hate it!
{ FINALLY… }
So can you tell how much I love Fantastic Beasts yet or not?
I was utterly charmed and so enthralled and I can’t wait to go see the movie! I
highly suggest reading the screenplay too because it is such a unique
experience and is a must do!

I have seen FB and absolutely LOVED it! I've been debating whether the screenplay is worth it though! I'm happy to hear it's almost exactly the same with the movie, and yes, Newt is very adorable! <3 Lovely review Anisha!

Thank you so much Tasya! You are the kindest! :) Also, I do think it's worth it just because a) the cover is gorg and b) it's really interesting to read! However, you might want to wait until it comes out in the library instead because $35 is a lot for a book!
DeleteOoh! I had no idea the book was so pretty! Now I want a copy. I was hoping to see the movie this weekend, but I'm not sure it's going to happen. Sigh.

Ooh I still haven't seen the movie yet and I want to so bad! Since I'm super late at replying (sorry!) have you gotten the chance to see it yet?
DeleteYep, you DEFINITELY need to watch the movie. It's really hard to imagine it from the screenplay, but the visuals are absolutely incredible. It's like 100x better on-screen with everything fleshed out.
ReplyDeleteIM SO EXCITED TO ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THE ACTOR FOR NEWT IS JUST SO DAMN CUTE! And I really hope it is great because I have such high expectations!
DeleteI haven't got the screenplay or watched the movie yet but it is in my future lol! I can't wait, I know I'm going to adore it and I love how it covers American society. I'm so glad there's a movie to accompany it though! Lovely review Anisha!

DeleteI have yet to read the screenplay but I saw the movie and I loved it! All the beasts were so cute and amazing and omg I want to go watch it again.
