The Midnight Star No Spoiler Book Review
Today I am sharing with you a review for The Midnight Star
by Marie Lu! This is the third and final book in The Young Elites trilogy and I
was so, so excited to read it!
If you know me at all, you’ll know how much I LOVE The Young
Elites! It’s such a fantastic series and I have a review for the first book on
my blog if you’d like to check it out!
I suggest not reading this review if you have not read the
first book, The Young Elites and the second book, The Rose Society because this
review may contain spoilers for the other two!
But let’s just get started with the review!
About the book.
Author: Marie Lu
Pages: 316
Publisher: Penguin
Synopsis: There was once a time when darkness shrouded the world, and the darkness had a queen.
Adelina Amouteru is done suffering. She’s turned her back on those who have betrayed her and achieved the ultimate revenge: victory. Her reign as the White Wolf has been a triumphant one, but with each conquest her cruelty only grows. The darkness within her has begun to spiral out of control, threatening to destroy all that she’s achieved.
Adelina’s forced to revisit old wounds when a new danger appears, putting not only Adelina at risk, but every Elite and the very world they live in. In order to save herself and preserve her empire, Adelina and her Roses must join the Daggers on a perilous quest—though this uneasy alliance may prove to be the real danger. (source)

OTHER BOOKS IN THE SERIES
My thoughts.
{ WRITING }
Marie Lu’s writing is quite simple, to the point and
effective. I like how she doesn’t beat around the bush and gets straight to the
point. I found that to work really well with the style of book and to
complement it quite effectively! What I do like though is how she really
focuses her writing towards developing the plot and characters rather than the
setting and world building (which I found the book didn’t really require!).
{ IDEA }
I don’t have a whole lot to say for the idea because it is the
same as the idea for the first two books, however, I feel like the whole ‘needs
to team up with the Daggers’ is getting repetitive as that is what she did in
the first two books too!
But, I didn’t say I didn’t like it!
I liked how Marie Lu put a different spin on it! It also
lead quite well to the conclusion!
{ PLOT }
I found the plot to be a little less fast paced than the
second book, The Rose Society, which I’d say was my favourite! There wasn’t as much going on as I would have
liked there to be, especially as the conclusion to a trilogy.
The book was also quite short, way shorter than the first
two books and I feel like there just wasn’t enough to write by the very end.
However, it was good enough to make me cry at the very end
and I felt totally shattered after putting the book down. (If you’ve read this,
let me know if you cried too, or if it was just me!)
{ CHARACTERS }
Adelina is a fantastic character and I love how strong yet
vulnerable she is! I loved the anti-hero aspects of her, explored by Marie Lu
and I fell absolutely in love with her even though she was such a broken and
damaged character who had done terrible things! I loved how layered she was as
a character and how much dimension and potential she had!
I don’t want to talk too much about the other characters as I
think that’ll spoil the book for readers however the side characters were
lovely as per usual and they added a bit more fun to the book!
{ FINALLY… }
SO I LOVED THIS BOOK!
I know there wasn’t very much fangirling in the rest of the review but that’s
because I wanted to leave it all to the end! I totally cried at the end (not
saying whether it was happy or sad tears, all I’ll say is that it happened) and
it was such an epic conclusion.
I was scared it wasn’t going to live up to my hopes as I was
half way through but the ending, especially the last few pages were so strong! That
and the dedication (in the image below), which I will remember for the rest of my life and the
author’s note at the very end where Marie Lu talks about Adelina and who it is
based on!
I found those aspects of the book really bumped the book
from a 4 stars to a 4.5 for me!
I highly, highly recommend you read this book and then, when
you’re done, come chat about it with me because I need to talk about it to
someone!
Please read it. More than just a fantastic story, it has
such an important message!
