Recent Reads #1
Hey lovelies!
So I really wanted to do a recent reads post since it was
half way through (or more than half way through) the month because to be
honest, I’ve barely read anything from my TBR *cringes*.
However, I have been reading a lot so I wanted to share some
of the books I’d read! These aren’t all of them because they’ll all appear in
my monthly wrap up but some of the earlier ones. If you do want to keep up to
date with what I’m reading, what I thought of the book and my rating for it,
feel free to follow me on Goodreads!
My chat about these books is going to be fairly brief and
spoiler free, because I have done book reviews (also spoiler free) for them
which I will link alongside which you can check out for an in-depth review!
This also contains a lot of ARCs however, let me just say,
everything stated in my reviews and in this post are my thoughts and opinions
and publishers send books to bloggers for an honest reviews and we are allowed
to give negative reviews (which I have in the past).
Now that that has been cleared up, let’s just get started!

So first on the list is Ember In The Ashes written by the
lovely Sabaa Tahir! I had heard such fantastic things about this and I have to
say I was a little disappointed! I didn’t hate it as I gave it four stars but
it certainly wasn’t as good as I thought it would be. It was said to have been
based on the Roman Empire and I, personally would have loved for it to be more
like the Roman Empire however, Tahir’s spin on the story was just as good.

This was such a highly anticipated release holy gods! EoS is
the fifth book in the Throne Of Glass series written by Sarah J Maas. I know a
lot of people in the book community had mixed reviews for it and most of the
people I really look up to in terms of book reviews didn’t have a whole lot of
love for it however, I happened to quite like it! I think most people found EoS
a little tedious to read (which is true, I mean it’s 700 pages!) but I quite
like the detail with which Sarah J Maas writes.

Words In Deep Blue by Cath Crowley is such an awesome,
emotional book and the best thing is, Crowley is an Australian author so yay
for #OzYA! It’s told from the perspectives of Rachael and Henry who are two
best friends alongside letters and notes exchanged between people. It’s based
in a used-book bookstore which I loved and it’s such a sweet and moving story! I
adored it!

Highly Illogical Behaviour by John Corey Whaley is a book
about a boy who is too scared to go out into the world, a girl who thinks she
can fix him and the girl’s boyfriend. It’s also about friendship and the
unbreakable bonds that the most unlikely of people can form. It’s funny and
cute and I enjoyed reading it a lot!

Assassin’s Heart by Sarah Ahiers was not a great read for me
unfortunately. I did not like it, which is funny because most people seemed to have
liked it but I just didn’t click with it. It was too dry and dull at times, the
plot was repetitive and boring, the characters weren’t all that well written
and while the idea was good, it wasn’t enough to save the book for me.
