This book
was sent to me from Bloomsbury (thank you to them for that) in exchange for an
honest review. Everything stated here is my opinion.
My thoughts.
So if
you’ve read my book reviews before, you’ll know I have a very structured way of
presenting my information and review with sub-headings but since this isn’t a conventional
book, I will just have to mish-mash it together, but I shall try my best to have
a general flow to the review along with small sub-headings!
Lots and
lots of colouring pages! Forty-six to be exact! They are black and white
drawings (meant to be coloured in) that display scenes from the five books that
have been released along with the prequel, The Assassin’s Blade.
On one
side there is a drawing to be coloured in and on the other side there is a
small extract from the text at the time the scene was happening to give it more
context. You do not have to have read the books to be able to use the colouring
book although if you haven’t yet read the books but are planning to, best is
you read the books first and then use the colouring book because it does have
slight spoilers (however, nothing major so you can if you aren’t too fussy).
Tell me about the drawings!
Well…I’m
glad you asked! As I said before, the drawings are scenes from the books
ranging from Celaena in the catacombs to Chaol in the gardens of the glass
castle and Manon riding her wyvern alongside her Thirteen. Some of my favourite
scenes from the books are in the colouring book!
The drawings
themselves are absolutely gorgeous and so detailed! As a very unartsy person, I
am in complete awe of the illustrators who were able to read the text and draw
out what they imagined the scenes to be.
Funnily
enough, I found some scenes to be quite similar to the way I had imagined them
and some to be very different. I found it changed quite a lot of images in my
head about some of the characters.
Is there lots of colouring to
be done?
SO.
MUCH! I think even if I spend hours and hours colouring, I’ll only be able to
get 3-4 pages done because the illustrations are so detailed and intricate. However,
I mean this in the best possible way because it means I am highly unlikely to
ever feel bored again!
So do you think I should buy it?
YUP! I’m
not just saying this because Bloomsbury told me to or anything! In fact, they didn’t
even say I have to talk about any of these things! But if I hadn’t been sent
this, I would have definitely gone out and bought it! Why you may ask?
Because
it’s flipping gorgeous, that’s why! More than being a colouring book designed
for entertainment, I found that the story had just been bought to life for me!
Seeing the characters, the scenes and the world fill up my pages was absolutely
amazing and when I read Empire Of Storms, I could really vividly imagine the
characters and their features and their world!
If you’ve
read and loved the Throne Of Glass series, you’ll adore this! I know I did! And
if you haven’t read the Throne Of Glass series (umm firstly read it because it’s
awesome!) you’ll enjoy using it anyway!
